Talking the guys into making the trip down to Tennessee for our third straight Jack was an easy task. In fact, everyone on the team made it, including Tony, who only makes it to a few, but always provides us amazing help and support. To make the weekend even sweeter, the Dizzy Pig Canada team also qualified to cook, so it was great to hang out with Mike and Denise once again. Throw in the fact that Chris celbrated his 46th birthday on Friday night. What a weekend. To top it all off, both Dizzy Pig USA and Dizzy Pig Canada teams each received two coveted calls to the stage! And with a 26th and 23rd overall finish, it was quite an improvement over last year. A huge congrats go out to Scottie and his CancerSucksChicago team for an amazing World Grand Championship!

The Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational Barbecue

A few things were different about the Jack this year, but just like before, this event was an honor too cook. What can you say, but the best teams in the world are all gathered around trying to woo the judges to give them a good score. And every year more of them are your friends. Cool.

Par for the course. Leaving the DC area is always a challenge. But once we clear the area, it's smooth sailin! Once we roll into Lynchburg, it's time to stop at our favorite market to stock up on supplies!
Shotgun with shot and beer! Bobby of Big Green Egg is a great support to the Dizzy Pig team!
Tony goofs while preparing ABTs. We cooked up a real nice spread on Thursday evening. Kenny is known for his treatment of beef rib roasts, and he cuts up a beauty of a roast into some monster rib eyes.
Purty meat. Cow Lick rub is Kenny's rub of choice on these beauts.
Another camp favorite is a couple racks of lamb lolipos. Here they have just received a generous coating of Red Eye Express. Adam Perry Lang, of Daisy Mays BBQ came and hung out with us for a spell. Woo and Adam whoopin it up.
Tony got this wild shot of Bobby and Chuck and some ghostly smoke. Friday morning Woo and Chuck dig into the righteous breakfast that Chuck made up. The whole meal was amazing, but the taters were the best!
Friday was a damp and gray day in the holler. Bryan Brown, cooking with Dizzy Pig Canada, came prepared! A nice gentleman shares his apple pie moonshine with us. Bobby gets set to take some of the liquid gold!
Philly Pigs were way over in the swamp lands. Jim preps the pork.
Bad Byron doin his thang on the egg. This is what a "mall" looks like in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
The whole team got to walk through the shops and do the "tourist" thing for a little while on Friday. It rained on and off most of the day. Everyone kept up their spirits though!
The "I Know Jack About Grilling" contest was sponsored by Big Green Egg. All the teams who were drawn took home a new egg and table! IQue was one of those teams, and they happened to win first place with their entry.
The contest was fun to watch, as the cooks had limited time and had to plate a whole meal from the ingredients they received 30 minutes before they started cooking. Mike (BBQFan1) of Dizzy Pig Canada plated up a very nice meal, and nearly won the contest.
Mike has the salad plated, and is fixin to take his chicken off. Adam Perry Lang and Dirty Dick rush to finish their plating.
The skies cleared out for a gorgeous Friday night. The festivities are winding up on Saturday.
Charlie, of I Smell Smoke, shows his spirit for the Jack! The barrel towers constantly remind you where you are!
Chris, Kevin and Chuck catch up on some stories. Sheri of Pellet Envy set up quite a site!
Tony takes a lot of pride in his self-imposed duties! We were among the teams with "waterfront" property!
The scene from the bridge. Saturday mornin' smoke is risin! Almost turn in time! Chris pours off the fourth place sauce, which included Jack Daniels whiskey.
The artist doin' what he does best. The crowd thickened pretty quickly, and the weather turned out perfect.
After crunch time, and some relaxing, it was time for the awards. Here's the group making the trek to the ceremony. Tony has a good feeling he'll hear the Dizzy Pig name!
A good shot of the whole team while waiting for the awards. Kenny climbed up on a JD barrel for a better view.
Hangin out with Rod at the awards. The seats fill up early, and we watched from the outskirts!
Waiting for our name to be called! Fortunately Dizzy Pig USA and Dizzy Pig Canada combined for four calls to the stage! The Philly Pigs.
Our friend Scottie, of CancerSucksChicago pulled out an incredible win, and all of his winnings, as well as all the money his foundation raises, go straight to cancer research and helping victims of this horrible disease. Waydago Scottie!! After a long and successful weekend we made the 650 mile trip home on Sunday. Goin' North!
