Our food was even better for the Open, but our scores were far less generous. A great time was had by all, and we capped off a very long weekend with a 119th overall finish. We hoped for better, but when we realize we beat 340 other teams, it doesn't seem so bad! Congrats to Four Men and a Pig. Mark and the team put together a serious stretch of food to score over 170 in all four categories.

The Royal Invitational is simply the most powerful lineup of BBQ teams in the country. 106 teams, all of which have won at least one state championship and many that have won more than 5. The coolest thing about our 5th Royal Invitational was the fact that we know a lot more teams now. So, like most other contests we do, the Royal is very much a reunion of good friends. Our team was clicking all weekend, and we turned in some really solid entries. The judges gave out some nice scores, and Dizzy Pig ended up with their first top ten overall finish at the Invitational. The team was excited with a 7th overall call and a 2nd place pork ribbon. Twas a big day for Dizzy. Congrats to Joey Mac's Smoke Stack on an incredible victory, and to all those who walked.

On the ro-AD! The weather was gorgeous for the drive across America's heartland.
Brian nabbed this shot that seems to set the scene pretty well. 18 hours later, we pulled into our site at the Royal.
How do they judge BBQ from 460 teams??? With 460 judges! Night time at the Royal.
Chris did a spot on Action News, and got some good press for the Egg and for Dizzy Pig! Carmen gets lassooed by the guy with long legs.
Our friend Ray Lampe cooked with a bunch of Big Green Eggs a couple spots down from us. Julie Applegate, of Mrs. Dog's fame, shows off her gorgeous ride.
The eggs burned for most of the weekend, and churned out some amazing food. A new Dizzy Pig fan displays the colors proudly.
Robert and UnYawn of Motley Que Crew all stocked up on refreshments. Lotta fun going on, but there's work to be done. Brian injects our pork butts.
Just in front of the Kemper Arena is one of the mascots of the Royal. Kenny does some cookin'.
Chris lost a bet to Johnny Trigg a few weeks ago and owed him a steak. A 2 inch thick well marbled ribeye coated with Cow Lick did the trick. Trigg is the only man to win the Jack Damiels World Championships twice (and he's from Texas), and he said it was the best steak he ever ate. The fireworks display was really nice this year.
Another view of our site next to Ronnie of Blazen BBQ. The eggs are ready to go for the Invitational.
Saturday Morning was crisp and cool. The butts cooked really nice in the cool weather. These beauties were good enough for 2nd place.
The ribs didn't score as well, but dang they were good. A view down Invitational Row.
There is a steel sculpture that is really cool from all angles. One of the teams running their dessert entry.
The Invitational awards. And the winner is? Joey Mac's Smoke Stack. Joey stopped by for a visit lugging that big ol' trophy.
Kenny and Brian build boxes into the evening. Kenny tools around on Julies stylin' bike.
Hanging out with a few legends. Rod Gray, Jerry King and Steve Farin. A lot of cooking and standing, and we were all ready for some chillin'.
We viewed the Open awards from another angle. Capping off a greaqt weekend, Dizzy Pig is all packed up. Here is Chris, Chuck, Kenny and Brian.
Cool clouds on the way home. In the tunnel 2/3 of the way home. Wow. The Royal.
